Science assesment end of topic test

kia Ora todays blog is about the topics my class has learnt over the term and everything that has happened will be covered in todays blogpost.

DNA: DNA is the fundamental material for humans and other living beings. everybody execpt for twins have the saame DNA like for example if you had a friend that had black hair and you had blonde thats different DNA or genes. DNA is a double helix shape and has its own code built from Adenine Thyimine cytosine guanine (A,T,C,G) these can only be paired with the following: A—T  G—C   T—A   C—G a way to remember this is curved or round shaped letters can be paired with each other and the straight ones can only be paired with straight ones. GENES: Genes are what people inherit like DNA where it has the ability to create what eye colour you are born with for example brown eyes, blue eyes or any other colour. If you had parents that had black hair you would inherit that gene and if a parent was tall while one was short you are most likely to inherit the tall gene. Genes can also be used in another aspect sometimes something can go wrong and you discover you have DWARFISM which isnt a disease but rather a disability in its self but others use this as a good way to view life. ALLELE : Alleles are the different versions of the same gene like blue vs brown eyes if your mother were to have brown eyes and your father had blue eyes you are most likely to inherit the brown eyes because it is most common and because it is what is known as a dominant gene were as blue eyes are recessive genes. INHERIT: Inheriting something is like passing something down to another like if your parents were to pass and had life insurance they would have something for you to inherit when they eventually do pass like for example it could be a house, money, jewelery or something sentimental. But talking about something genetics wise you could inherit the height from your father eyes of your mother or hair colour from your grandparents. PUNNETT SQUARES: punnett squares are like a digital timetable having four squares in the middle and have two letters on the top that go horizontal and two more on the side that go down vertically. It could be like

S            s

|——————|

S  |     SS    |   Ss     |

|———|——–|

s  |     Ss     |     ss    |

|——————|

ALLELES: Alleles are what creates or helps with the punnett squares because what happenes is the alleles for the genes are usually used for the punnett squares like the S s SS ss Ss could be the probabilities of the outcome like SS is 100%dominant Ss is 50% ss is also 100% but the probabiliy rates are the amount of times it shows on the punnett squares if you have three S and one s the probability is high for SS and if you have three s and one S the probability changes with it becoming Ss because the dominant gene always finds its way. NATURAL SELECTION: natural selection is a saying and its also what happens in real life like if  a fox dies from a bear or an apex predator on land its just natural selection because it was bound to die from something in the forest anyways. REPRODUCTION: Reproduction is something that is very common in life and is bound to be seen or done, Reproduction is when two living beings mate and create an offspring but there are certain circumstances where females have created a baby without a mate which is called asexual reproduction sort of like how bacteria clones themselves as a way to Reproduction.EVOLUTION: Evoltuion is a phenomenon that happens when a species doesn’t need a certain trait or when they need it for survival like for example an anteater needs its long tongue for inserting into anyhills and feasting on the ants in there.

Drawing in pairs

Kia Ora today for health class we played a quick game called drawing in pairs.

we were supposed to get into pairs in order to follow through with the game. me and Jerome partnered up with each other we received a paper with a picture on it and we were supposed to draw the picture on another sheet of paper. And we were allowed to switch places after one of us finished the drawing

Rules of the game

  1. get into pairs
  2. both people face away from each other on chairs
  3. DO NOT turn your back to see the paper
  4. try your best to draw what is on the paper with out looking
  5. the other is supposed to describe what is on the paper

Hauora

My Taha whanau was affected by communicating with Jerome about how the drawing was supposed to be drawn and the same went for Jerome when it was my turn. by communicating we were able to come closer and see how each other views things.

These were the photos me and Jerome had drawn

PHOTO

I apologize if the photos aren’t seen properly

Games and my hauora.

Kia Ora Today for 10-15 minutes we played a game called water pong which is a game based on beer pong were you throw a ping pong ball into a plastic cup.

the rules of the game are simple:

  1. you align 10 cups in the form of a triangle
  2. you grab two ping pong balls
  3. if you get a ball in a cup you get a point
  4. if the cup tips over it doesn’t count as anything
  5. you cannot throw a ball into your own cups on purpose

the areas of hauora that were affected by participating in water pong were my physical health because I had to fetch the ball every time it goes around or under the table and throwing it hurt my arm.

My Taha tinana was impacted positively because I got a little workout from throwing it.

My Taha hinengaro was affected because I wanted to flip or throw the table at someone when I missed but I held composure because then it would disrupt the others trying to focus and play the game.

the social justice value of fairness were included when no one cheated and actually played fairly and no one was screaming at each other and everyone had a turn each so we could all participate in the challenge.

I did decent because I played and got the work done.

Music questions

1: Which insturment have you chosen this term and why?

I have decided to use the guitar because it is easier for me because I have been playing for 5 years

2: Which song are you going to learn this term and why did you choose this song?

I am choosing monsters by James blunt (Ft Iamtongi) because I like eto sing this because my uncle passed away a few years ago and I can sing for him.

3: what is challenging about this class?

I do not believe anything is hard for this class aside from socializing with other classmates that are not in my friend circle.

4: how will you prepare for the class performance?

I will put aside some free time for practice in order to work on my singing skills.

Te Whare tapa wha

In Health Today me and the rest of my classmates all participated in a team building activity.

we all had different methods to build it but the one I’m telling is what me and Zander did.

First we all had to gather A3 pieces of paper and playdough

x6 paper

x1 playdough

Second me and Zander folded them all in four to make it have more stability

third we slid them into slots to hold them together

and when we did that we wrote down what each wall was for Example. Wall No.1 Taha tinana/physical

and just for fun we had fashioned it to have a cool roof while phoenix made a playdough Buddha as spiritual wellbeing

a smile for mental and or emotional, table top tennis for physical and two people shaking hands for social.

here is the house

My musical experience

Do you play an imstrument? answer. I play the guitar

what instrument would you like to try? answer I would like to learn the bass because if I focus on the bass I can get a handle on doing more easier things for a guitar tab

what would you like to learn in music class this year? answer I would like to learn more on scale progressions and what is the musical spectrum so I can find out a way to completely make a song all on my ownd

2 drinkin’problem by ekolu because the vibes are nice and I like the island part of it

3 baby come back by player because the guitar riff is pretty cool

4 lets do it again by j boogs because its cool

5 baby come back by player because I like the guitar riff and how simple yet complicated it is

if I were deserted on an island and what style of music I would listen to would be r&b because its nice a chilling were I am able to relax when stressed

DNA Extraction

Kia ora readers my name is Te Haripurangi and for today I am going over what my class did for our experiments about extracting DNA from a strawberry.

AIM

The aim of the expiriment was to learn lab rules to learn how to get together and to learn how to extract DNA from a strawberry

Method

The method used for this experiment:

1: in a ziplock bag add 1/2 of a banana a splash of water, a squirt of dish soap and a teaspoon of salt.

2:Mash the banana inside the bag until everything flows freely and no large chunkz of banana can be seen.

3: strain the solution through a cloth into a beaker

4:Pour said solution into a test tube, make sure to rinse out the beaker with water

5:place test tube in a beaker filled with WARM water.

6:Leace it for 10 minutes

7:Use a pipette to slowly drip 5mL of cold ethanol down the inside of the test tube (while supervised by a teacher)

Discussion

two things that I have learnt from this experience was that everything that has the ability to reproduct has a DNA code embeded in their system whether it is a plant or a human being.

3 real life uses of DNA extraction

1:you can use this code to further studies of DNA

2Extracting is possible but mixing can be possible to  create new species

3:using DNA can be helpful for the government or police to determine if a person was involved with a crime.

Refraction and reflection post assestment

Introduction

Refraction is what happens when light Bends from an object like put a pencil inside a gass cup with water and then look at the cup from a horizontal angle then the pencil will look like its bending underwater.

Disscusion

We investigated Light refraction and reflection and how it worked in front of a light source. With cards that had different amounts of slots we put them infront of the light source to see that light was restricted to the amount of slots that was Infront of it. So the results of it was that we saw that the light had spread across to different ways from one end of the paper to bending and reflecting to another location of the paper.

Slot Observation Picture
No Slot, glass arch+Metallic arch and Convex Reflection towards metallic arch
Thick slot + arch Less refraction + focus
No slot + concave mirror More refraction and some reflection
No Slot + Triangle, convex,Metallic arch and glass arch More focus towards triangle then refraction to convex to a tiny  bit towards metallic arch

Death dying and the afterlife assesment

Introduction:In Health we have been studying about death dying and the afterlife. We have learned about some different cultural beliefs and traditions. like how different countries do funureals and how that grief or celebrate their dead loved ones.

Discussion:For this Topic I have chores to investigte the death of legendary Martin Luther king junior.

Martin Luther King junior had died by assassination from his second floor balcony on april 4 1968 and the reason was because he was targeted for government hostility and eventually he met his end from there.

interesting piees of information about this is why he was targeted for this negitive. He was seen as a  threat due to status quo because he was opposing the Vietnam war and advocating for economic justice which was a positive and encouraging speech which represents spiritual haora or emotional haora.

I demonstrate respect to others beliefs and cultures by either  being silent and going along with things are I just tell others that I like their  cultures and belifes and its cool to be showing others how much your beliefs mean to you.

By showing others respect to their culture could help with their spiritual health because you can show that you have a massive amount of respect for both them and their entire culture along with social wellbeing you can be with them and their friends and family to really get with their lives and beliefs.

It is important that I take care of all areas of my hauora when I experience change, loss, or grief because it can change  me into a stage of grief like anger, bargaining, and others like I may turn unfriendly or push others away because I feel I might be alone in this world.

I can take care of my hauora when I experience change, loss, or grief by Going to other people and ask them for assistance because I may be going through a hard time.

Paleolethic tools European handaxe

Paleolithic handaxes in Europe from the Acheulean period around 500000 to 300000 years ago are some of the earliest and most recognizable stone tools made by early humans such as Homo heidelbergensis and Neanderthals. These tools were typically bifacial meaning they were flaked on both sides and often shaped like a teardrop with a pointed end. Made from materials like flint or quartzite they were used for cutting digging and butchering animals. Sites like Boxgrove in England La Noira in France and Atapuerca in Spain have produced well preserved examples showing both practical design and sometimes a surprising degree of symmetry.

The Acheulean industry originated in Africa and spread into Europe as early humans migrated and adapted to new environments. In Europe handaxes remained in use for hundreds of thousands of years before being replaced by more advanced flake tools in the Middle Paleolithic such as those made using the Levallois technique. While handaxes were primarily functional some may have also served symbolic or social purposes as suggested by their symmetry and craftsmanship. Their long use and wide distribution mark an important step in the evolution of human technology and cognition.
